Attention: Beginning Guitar Players Who Are Frustrated or About to Quit Playing Guitar Forever

"Do You Make These Fatal Beginning Guitar Playing Mistakes?"

WARNING... Study by Fender Shows that 90% of Beginning Guitar Players Fail and Quit Playing Within a Year.  New Book Reveals the 3 Simple Mistakes You Need to Fix Now to Avoid Being Next

"Eric, do you think I can do it?  Can I actually learn to play guitar?"

I’ll never forget hearing those words from Tom several years ago.  When we first met, Tom was in his mid-40’s and he was about to enroll in my Colorado guitar teaching studio.

Tom had already played guitar for a couple of years.  He took private lessons from two different instructors, including the owner of a local music school.  Tom watched different YouTube videos, and he bought different courses and books.

Despite all of Tom’s efforts, he wasn’t even a good guitar player when we first met.  In fact, he was still a beginner!  Tom stayed busy between his work and family and he had more free time since his kids were getting older.  However, he was starting to think that playing guitar just wasn’t for him.

Tom had modest aspirations… he didn’t want to be the world’s latest-and-greatest “guitar hero.”  All he wanted was to be able to play guitar for himself or others without feeling shame or embarrassment.

Tom had a passion for all kinds of music.  Deep down, he still had a burning desire to achieve his guitar playing dream.  But he didn’t know what else he could do.

I understood exactly why Tom was so desperate and so unsure of himself that day.  Why?

Well, Tom was making the exact same mistakes I’d seen hundreds and hundreds of other beginners make over the years. I knew I had the exact solutions that Tom needed to finally play guitar the way he always dreamed about…

How a Strange Discovery Changed the Way I Taught Beginners and Revolutionized Their Guitar Playing

My name is Eric Stone and I'm an author, guitar player, and music educator based in Colorado.  I attended the Los Angeles College of Music on a performance scholarship where I earned a certificate in guitar performance.  I'm also a former schoolteacher with a master's degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania.

When I first started teaching beginners many years ago, I used the same tired methods and old books that every other teacher uses.  Frankly, my students mostly got lousy results from my teaching back then.

I didn’t think much about why this happened in those days.  I just naively assumed that these people were too old to start playing.  Or they didn’t have the natural talent needed to play guitar.  Or they simply weren’t born with the right skills to play guitar.

After all, I was teaching them all the “right things” that every other teacher did!

When I first moved to Colorado and opened my teaching studio, I assumed that things would be different.  After all, I knew more about music and playing guitar from when I went to music school in LA.  I was sure that my time at the school would help me do a better job of teaching beginners.

So I continued to teach the same old things using the same tired methods I used before.  And my beginner students still got the same lousy results.

I knew I had to do something urgently to improve as a teacher so I wouldn’t have to watch my students struggle and quit.  I felt terrible, because I wasn’t helping people achieve their dream of playing guitar.

I heard all the naysayers out there who say that it’s too late to start playing guitar as an adult.  I still didn’t want to believe it was true but, once again, I was teaching the “right things” to beginners, and it still wasn’t working out.

I remember the night I hit the wall.  It was a cold Colorado winter night, and I just finished another frustrating day of teaching.  The day had been filled with ineffective lessons and even more beginners who were destined to quit.  I was almost at the point of throwing in the towel and moving on from teaching guitar.

As I tossed and turned in bed that night, I had a strange thought.  I wondered, "What if everything I was told about teaching guitar to beginners was wrong?  What if the typical approach was actually ineffective and it hurt people's chances of succeeding?"

The next day, I was really excited to get back to my teaching studio and see what I could do.  I didn’t know what I’d do differently, but I knew I had the background and skills as a former schoolteacher to figure it out.

I knew I had to figure things out quickly so I could help beginners realize their dream of playing guitar and finally experience the joy of making music.

What I discovered over the next several months shocked me…

The Dead-End Guitar Habits

In the months after my epiphany, I realized some surprising and counterintuitive things.  I found that what beginners naturally do on the guitar actually keeps them from succeeding.  Yes, believe it or not, your natural instincts hurt your guitar playing.

I call this phenomenon the "Dead-End Guitar Habits."  It's like you're in a maze and there are countless paths that will lead you to a dead-end.

It’s not your fault that you do the Dead-End Guitar Habits, because they come naturally to beginners.  You have no idea what you’re doing wrong or how to fix your mistakes until it’s too late.

If you make enough of these mistakes and if they aren’t corrected, you’re guaranteed to want to burn your guitar and quit playing forever in frustration.

The Dead-End Guitar Habits are actually fatal to your guitar playing!

So, rather than panic, I got to work.  I taught thousands of hours of lessons, and I used my real-world experiences as a school teacher to develop a system to help beginning guitar players to fix their Dead-End Guitar Habits.

It turned out that every beginner was making mistakes that hurt their guitar playing.  These mistakes weren’t observed or corrected by their previous instructors, and no one warned them not to do certain things in instructional books or YouTube videos.

And the people who came in with no guitar experience still made the exact same mistakes.  The Dead-End Guitar Habits came naturally to everyone!

To make things even worse, there are three Dead-End Guitar Habits that everyone does that are so dangerous and so deadly to your guitar playing, it's impossible to succeed when you make these mistakes.  I call these Dead-End Guitar Habits "The Triple Threat".

If you expect to figure things out by yourself, I’ve got some bad news for you…

Study Shows There’s a 90% Chance You Will Fail and Quit Within a Year!

According to a study by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, 90% of beginners quit guitar within their first year of playing.

90%!

Think about how many resources for beginning guitar players are available these days…

You have private lessons, books, local music schools with one-on-one lessons and group classes, YouTube videos, online schools, membership sites, cutting-edge apps using the newest technology, guitar-playing video games, and more.

Heck, there are even gizmos that will light up your fretboard to show you exactly where to place your fingers in order to play a song!

With everything that’s available to help beginners play guitar, how can 90% quit in a year or less?

After I read that study from Fender, my mission became urgent.  The system that I developed and perfected in my Colorado teaching studio needed to get into the hands of as many people as possible.  It became my mission to help frustrated beginning guitar players from around the world.

That's why I wrote my new book The Beginning Guitar Emergency Survival System: How to Eliminate Frustration and Failure, Stop Sabotaging Yourself, and Finally Achieve Your Dream of Playing Guitar.

The Beginning Guitar Emergency Survival System takes you by the hand, shows you exactly what you’re doing wrong, and shows you how to easily fix the Dead-End Guitar Habits and the Triple Threat in just minutes a day.

Over the past several years, I’ve taken countless beginning students in my Colorado teaching studio through the system laid out in The Beginning Guitar Emergency Survival System.  Many of them are people who had failed to learn through the typical books, online guitar sites, YouTube videos, and other local instructors.  Others never touched a guitar before they met me.

Today, because of what you’ll discover in The Beginning Guitar Emergency Survival System, they’re able to play guitar beyond their wildest dreams.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve just started playing guitar. It doesn’t matter if you’ve struggled for a couple months or many years (or even decades).  It doesn’t matter if you play acoustic or electric guitar. It doesn’t even matter if you just want to have the skills to be able to your favorite songs for fun and to relax or if you ultimately want to become an advanced guitar player.  And it doesn’t matter what guitar style you want to play one day.
